The language of home

Home and language are entwined.

I have always carried a deep love for language and ethymology. The way a culture speaks can tell us so much about that culture, the way its people organise thought and communication. It is also an eye opener on other ways of articulating the world around us.

Carolina  Schutti’s “einmal muss ich über weiches gras gelaufen sein”, is a book that speaks of a woman who went to look for  her origins and managed to find it via a language she heard as a child ( she didn’t speak it).

There is definitely emotions arising when hearing a language that we used to speak or hear growing up when one has become an expat.

The book hasn’t been translated yet in English – but its a book I will look out for!
